In the past, if diet and exercise failed to get rid of stubborn fat bulges, many patients opted for liposuction, an invasive surgical procedure. Or they have turned to radio frequency devices or infrared technology, but these devices have provided limited improvements. With advances in technology, patients can now reduce unwanted fat bulges and enjoy permanent fat cell reduction during a non-invasive, non-surgical method called CoolSculpting that provides extraordinary results.
Developed by ZELTIQ Aesthetics, Inc., CoolSculpting can reduce hard-to-reach areas with diet and exercise: love handles, lower belly fat rolls, upper belly fat, muffin tops, fat under the bra and back fat. It is an incredibly effective technique that enhances the contour of the body.
How is it possible? FDA-approved CoolSculpting works through a revolutionary technology called cryolipolysis. During cryolipolysis, which literally means “cold-induced destruction of fat”, fat cells are cooled to a temperature that results in their elimination. The procedure is very safe: the temperature required to destroy fat cells is higher than that which would cause damage to the skin, muscles and nerves. With CoolSculpting, there is no damage to surrounding structures.
During the procedure, the doctor applies a skin-protective gel pad and a CoolSculpting applicator is placed on the desired treatment area. The device attracts the swelling of the fat and cools the fat to induce cryolipolysis, continuously monitoring the temperature and adjusting it as needed.
Unlike liposuction, where fat cells are sucked out of the body, CoolSculpting treatment causes the body to naturally eliminate fat cells through the lymphatic drainage system. The cells are then slowly excreted from the body over a period of several months thereafter.
With CoolSculpting, treating each fat bulge typically takes an hour to perform. Love handles can take two to four hours of treatment; the lower abdomen usually takes about an hour using a special larger applicator. However, each case is different, the patient / doctor should discuss this before the procedure.
Unlike liposuction, anesthesia is not required for CoolSculpting. During the procedure, patients can even use their phone or laptop, read a book or watch a movie. The only discomfort patients may experience during CoolSculpting is the sensation of Coolsculpting
someone pinching or squeezing fat when the device is first applied to the skin. This usually goes away in the first five minutes of the procedure.
CoolSculpting can be performed in the comfort of a doctor’s office. Patients return home immediately after the procedure and can resume normal activities; many have been known to train or do yoga on the same day. There may be mild discomfort in the treatment area; numbness is usually present later and can take several weeks to resolve. It is possible to take Extra Strength Tylenol®, but it is recommended that you avoid taking anti-inflammatory agents for the first two months after the procedure.
Many patients start noticing results as early as three weeks after the CoolSculpting procedure. Most results will be seen about two months after CoolSculpting is performed; the improvement can continue after three months.
In most cases, the skin is elastic enough to contract after treatment. However, it is important to know that if the cause of the swelling is loose skin, CoolSculpting alone will not treat the condition – a surgical procedure such as a tummy tuck may be required.
Many patients ask if it is necessary to start a new diet or exercise program after CoolSculpting. There is not. Patients are recommended to maintain the same schedule they did before the procedure to maintain their weight.
Most patients only need one CoolSculpting treatment; however, it is possible to repeat the treatments after three months if further reduction of fatty swelling is desired. Coolsculpting Before and After The photos show that the results of coolsculpting are impressive and undeniable.
Although most people are candidates for CoolSculpting, it is important to see a highly qualified doctor.
